I just found this on Reuters' site:
Film Director Commits Suicide - Famed Japanese director Juzo Itami, maker of
films such as "Tampopo" and "Ososhiki" (The Funeral), died Saturday after
committing suicide. Police say Itami, 64, was found badly injured on a
street outside his office and died in a hospital shortly later. Itami,
Japan's most acclaimed modern filmmaker, jumped from the roof of the eight
floor building where his office was located on the third floor. Itami, whose
real name was Yoshihiro Ikeuchi, earlier this year released his 10th film,
"Marutai no Onna" (Woman of the Police Protection Program), to critical and
commercial success.
