Madadayo

In light of all the help from top American filmmakers that Kurosawa
received in getting American releases for such films as RAN, DREAMS, and
RHAPSODY IN AUGUST, can anyone explain why MADADAYO went unreleased in
the U.S., even on video? (I have seen it in Japanese video stores here
in L.A., but only in a Japanese, non-subtitled version.) It's difficult
for me to imagine a filmmaker of Kurosawa's stature not getting at least
a video release for one of his films in this country.
