The Athene Francais Culture Center (near Suidobashi on the Chuo Line)
will hold a retrospective of the films of Kuroki Kazuo from October 13 to
25.

For those who are unfamiliar with him, Kuroki was one of several
influential directors to come out of documentary, working at Iwanami
Productions in the late 50s and early 60s. But it was his _Tobenai
chinmoku_ in 1966, his first feature fiction film, that proved very
influential in 1960s film culture. He followed that up with _Kyuba no
koibito_ (1969), _Nihon no akurei_ (1970), _Ryoma ansatsu_ (1974),
_Matsuri no junbi_ (1975), _Tomorrow_ (1988), among others.

The retro is quite inclusive, showing his famous documentaries like _Waga
ai Hokkaido_ (1962) and _Aru marason ranna no kiroku_ (1964) and some of
his TV work (such as for the Zatoichi series). Most of the days will
feature talks between Kuroki and quests like Tsuchimoto Noriaki, Higashi
Yoichi, Harada Yoshio, Tahara Soichiro, Otsu Koichiro, Kimura Takeo,
Momoi Kaori, and Ishibashi Renji.

Tickets are 1400 yen (1100 in advance), with a three-ticket book costing
3500 (3000 in advance).

Check out Pia for a detailed schedule or call the Athene Francais at
03-3291-4339 between 1 and 8 pm.
