As to your question <if there are any conferences where Japanese film is a
topic>,  let me inform you that International Conference on Japanese Period
Film (JIdaigeki) will be held in Kyoto City on December 13 (during the
Kyoto Film Festival). David Bordwell, Edward Yang and I wil be among the
panelists.
