Dear kinejapan
My name is Corinne Dipple and I am currently in my third year at college
in London studying for a BA (Hons) Film & Video. Throughout the course I
have centred my theory work around Japanese cinema to prepare myself for
my dissertation on Takeshi Kitano, which I am in the midst of now.
I have no idea where my love for Japanese cinema sprung from. Over the
years I have found that new Asian cinema constantly surprises and
inspires me in a way that European and American work rarely does. For
innovation I always look to Japan. Here in London the ICA supports new
Asian cinema, and I have been lucky to catch screenings of otherwise
unreleased films.
Subjects of my previous work include:
-the interaction of genre and authorship in the work of Suzuki Seijun
and Takeshi Kitano
-the construction of the soundtrack of "An Actor's Revenge"
-an analysis of "I Like You, I Like You Very Much" as an experimental
film
Discovering kinejapan has been great. At college my tutors know next to
nothing about Japanese cinema, and as a result I have had very little
guidance.
If anybody is interested, I will give details of my dissertation. I
would love some feedback.
Thanks.
Corinne
