This just came up on a 'Godard' discussion group I am on and I was
wondering if anyone had any thoughts on the matter....

>I am working on Ozu's *Late Spring,* specifically with Kristin
>Thompson's essay "*Late Spring* and Ozu's Unreasonable Style" (1988)
and
>she points out a number of stylistic devices in Ozu that strongly
remind me
>of Godard. For example: Ozu's subversion of cinematic conventions,
the
>arbitrariness of his stylistic choices, the use of long shots of
landscapes
>in between sequences that break the narrative flow, the use of
cutaways
>within scenes with the return to the original scene with a slightly
>different mise-en-sc?ne that disorients the viewer.
>Any takers?

Thanks

Joss
