To join the Kitano conversation, I myself started thinking of his comments
about the younger generation being like interesting aliens to him. This
connects to his depiction of these younger generations in -Sono otoko kyobou
ni tsuki- (Violent Cop). The film starts with teenagers kicking old
alcoholic men in the park, Takeshi (as a cop) beating one of these
teenagers, and after that there is a scene, in which primary school children
throw garbage from a bridge to an old man who is passing under the bridge in
a boat. This seems to connect with Kitano's comments about how the youth of
today are let to do whatever they please. So what do you others think of
these scenes? Is there a special commentary about teenagers of today, or are
these scenes just continuation of the general theme of -Violent Cop-, after
all, in this film pretty much everybody gets 'spoiled' by their connections
to yakuza, money, violence etc.?
