Stuart Galbraith has about three pages on Message from Space in his _Japanese Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror Films_. He calls it a _Star Wars_ rip-off...similar characters, musical quotes, etc. He also provides quotes from Variety, LA Times, Boston Globe etc., so it got something of a US release (I certainly don't remember it!).
