There is an article I have run across before making a comparison between
"decadence" (including androgyny and cross-dressing) in Tokyo of the
period and that in inter-war Berlin.

I just moved and everything is upside down -- one huge project is to get
all articles organized, filed and indexed on database. Apologies for not
being able to be more specific.

The article was not in a journal, but in a book (perhaps an anthology?) I
once perused at the New York Public Library. The editor of the volume was
an immediately recognizable Japanologist -- perhaps Rimer.

Anyway, it's a lead for you.
