Re the query about the '80s SF movie. The film in question was Sengoku
Jietai, about 21 Self-Defense soldiers who find themselves, together with
their tanks, helicopters and guns, in the middle of a medieval war, pitted
again an army of 20,000 samurai. It starred Sonny Chiba and was directed by
Kadokawa Haruki. Toho released it in 1979, with Toei pitching in for the
typically massive Kadokawa publicity campaign. I remember actually seeing
part of it on TV, though I may be thinking of the dozens of times I sat
through the trailers.
