Films about Edo/Meiji-era cities

A teacher friend wants to know:

A query: We have social studies teachers doing a unit on cities at the
moment. They're looking for movies on life in the Edo or Meiji eras -- ones
that reflect what Edo/Tokyo was like at the time.  Does anything come to
mind? If so, is it available with English subtitles? And, if so, is it
available?
