An economic revival?

The papers reported that MITI just came out with another edition of their 
_Tokutei sabisu sangyo jittai chosa_ in which they reported that during 
the prolonged economic slump, high-priced leisure activites like golf are 
in decline while lower cost (!!???) entertainments like the movies are 
experiencing an economic revival.  While the year MITI concentrated on, 
1997, did feature an exceptional hit like _Mononoke hime_, the report 
apparently cites the demand for cheaper entertainment and the spread of 
multiplexes as central factors behind the surge in the movie theater 
business.
