Original ending of "No Regrets"

For a paper on an American filmmaker in a similar situation in the 1940s, I
am trying to find clues to the original ending of Kurosawa's "No Regrets
for Our Youth." According to his autobiography and other sources, Kurosawa
bowed to demands of the craft unions and rewrote the ending orginally
devised by scenarist Hisaita Eijiro.

Can anyone point me to a source or happen to know anecdotally what the
original ending was?
