I know there must be people in Tokyo that can help better than I can, but
there is a video shop in Shinjuku that carries a lot of wartime stuff.
Without a map, I don't know how much my directions will help....anyway,
from the Alta area head towards Kabukicho. There's that very broad street
you must cross before heading into the maze of bars. The video store is on
that Shinjuku-eki side of the street.
If you aren't in a hurry, I don't see why you couldn't order it just about
anywhere.
Jeff also asked:
>By the way, how much would you expect to pay for individual issues of Eiga
>kenkyu or some of the other 30s journals? Is 2000 yen per copy expensive?
The price will depend upon where you buy it. At Yamaguchi, you'll pay a
premium. You can probably find it cheaper at Inagaki or Kimoto. (FYI:
addresses and phone numbers are on the Kinema Club site, along with maps to
help you find them.) If you aren't in a hurry, you will often stumble on
Eiga Kenkyu at regular old furuhonya, which is far cheaper than the three
above. Expect to pay between 1,600 and 2,500 a copy. For other 1930s
journals, it will depend not only on the store, but the title. Eiga Hyoron
is often about 1,000 to 2,000 a copy, however, I come across these all the
time at used book stores for 300 or less (and usually pick them up).
However, if you are pushing the early numbers, the price goes up
accordingly. Kinejun also varies for the same reasons. More unusual titles
like Eiga Sozo or Eiga to Ongaku are actually cheaper to buy as reprints.
The unusual titles that haven't been reprinted are ridiculously expensive.
Good luck.
