sense of history. What is so new about international distribution, the
roles of festivals, and international coproductions?

Tokyo International Film Festival proudly presents Tokyo Film Creators'
Forum,  a program consisting of panel discussions for promoting the export
of Japanese films, and an announcement launching the "Subsidy for the
Promotion of Japanese Film Export."
 
 
PROJECT SYNOPSIS
 
 
Recent years have seen a rising number of Japanese films in the
international spotlight. While Japanese film production and distribution
had traditionally been limited to the domestic market, current trends
encourage a move into the international market. Through panel discussions,
Tokyo Film Creators' Forum offers a place to contemplate the ways through
which Japanese cinema should interact with the new wave of globalization in
film production and distribution today.

"Film Festivals as a Gateway to the International Market"

Themes:         The panel will report on recent examples of Japanese films
featured in
                international film festivals overseas and how they have
been received. To 
                what extent are international film festivals interested in
Japanese cinema? 
                How did our forerunners from Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Chinese
cinema 
                utilize international film festivals in their launch into
the international scene?
                Including a report from Pusan International Film Festival,
which started a 
                pre-sales market for Asian films this year, the speakers
will discuss the 
                correlation between Japanese films and film festivals.

 Tokyo Film Creators' Forum will announce the official launch of the
"Subsidy for the Promotion of Japanese Film Export" at TIFF 99. There will
be a Q & A session after the presentation by Toshiyuki Horie, Tokyo
International Film Festival Secretary General.

TIFF this year presents NIPPON CINEMA NOW, in an initiative to promote
Japanese films internationally. 16 new Japanese films will be screened with
English subtitles in a private setting especially for TIFF's foreign guests
and journalists visiting or residing in Tokyo.

documentary, entertaininment and experimental film, from the most creative
