Self-Introduction

     Hello.  My name is John Pusateri, and I am new to the kinejapan 
discussion group.  I attend Stetson University in DeLand, Florida and 
have, relatively recently, narrowed my academic focus to film, in 
particular Japanese film.
     I spent this summer engaged in a research project on the Japanese 
Samurai film, looking in particular at the Lone Wolf and Cub series.  
I'll be presenting my findings at the Popular Culture Association 
Conference (in the Asian Popular Culture section) in March at San Diego.  
     I'm particularly interested in the connections between American and 
Japanese popular culture as revealed through film (David Desser's work 
has been particularly influential).  As far as particular film and 
filmakers, lately I've been enjoying and studying the Yakuza films of 
'Beat' Takeshi.  Also, I'm a huge fan of Seijun Suzuki.  While I 
certainly appreciate the Japanese film masters who have achieved success 
in the States (Kurosawa, etc), my interests lie more in films that have 
been traditionally considered 'B' pictures.
     Also, if anyone knows of good outlets of (subtitled) Japanese 
videos in the Central Florida area please let me know.
