 The following job announcement was sent to me in hopes that I would help
spread the word.  I imagine it will be posted elsewhere, but meanwhile:

University of Kentucky.  Assistant Professor of Japanese, tenure-track,
beginning August 1999 to teach courses in Japanese culture and society on
the undergraduate level and Japanese language at all levels.  Ph.D. in hand
preferred.  Native or near-native fluency in Japanese and English. 
Teaching experience and a clear research agenda are important.  This
position involves a major role in the developing of the Japan Studies
Program.  Applications should include the names of three references who may
