UNIV OF NOTRE DAME, NOTRE DAME, IN 46556. The Department of East Asian
Languages and Literatures invites applications for a new tenure track
position in Japanese literature beginning in Aug. 1999. Duties will
include teaching upper-level Japanese language courses and lecture
courses on Japanese literature and culture. Area of specialization is
open, but preference will be given to candidates with some
college-level teaching experience. Those who also have a secondary
interest in film or popular culture are encouraged to apply. Minimum
qualifications: Ph.D. in hand at time of appointment, native or
near-native fluency in Japanese and English. Salary very competitive.
Candidate screening will begin Dec. 15, 1998 and continue until the
position is filled. Send letter of application, vita & 3 ltrs of
recommendation to Chair, Japanese Search Committee, 205 O'Shaughnessy
