 Literatures.Bates College, a highly-selective private liberal arts
College
 located insouth-central Maine, invites applications and nominations for
a
 newtenure-track position in Japanese culture and language.  The
 appointmentwill be made at the Assistant Professor level in the
Department
 of German,Russian, and East Asian Languages and Literatures.  The
position
 alsorequires participation in the Asian Studies Program. Candidates
should
 havea strong commitment to teaching both Japanese language and East
 AsianStudies courses.  The College seeks candidates with interest in a
 widerange of cultural expressions and is particularly interested in
 receivingapplications from scholars with expertise in the visual arts
or
 socialsciences.  Candidates must possess native or near-native fluency
 inJapanese language and have the Ph.D. or be close to completing it.
