Just a follow-up:

There was a Fuji TV movie called "Sayonara Ri Ko-ran" that aired in 1991,
and this is available on video in Japan, I believe. There was also a
Gekidan Shiki musical called "Ri Ko-ran" which played with some popularity
in Singapore (and China? there was talk, but I don't know what happened).
Of her American films, I've only been able to find "Japanese War Bride"
(1952, King Vidor) on video, although there may be a copy of "House of
Bamboo" somewhere. Gina Marchetti critiques "Japanese War Bride" in her
book "Romance and the Yellow Peril," but not Yamaguchi specifically.
Murakami Yumiko critiques the use of Yamaguchi as representative of
Japanese femininity in her book, "Iero Feisu: Hariuddo eiga in okeru
Ajia-jin no shozo." In this, she makes reference to Yamaguchi's eventful
past.

Also check out information on Isamu Noguchi, the artist to whom she was
married for some years.

Best, Lori Hitchcock
