Newspapers have reported that Shochiku has succeeded in selling the
foreign distribution rights to Oshima Nagisa's new film _Gohatto_ for
several million dollars even before the film has been completed. The
figure is apparently a record for a Japanese film. The French company
Canal+ has spent several million for the world rights, and plans to open
the film in 30 countries, including the US, England, and Germany.
Shochiku said the deal is quite good for a Japanese film, as it includes
a share of the profits if the film succeeds abroad.
