The various volumes of Kinema Junpo's "Illustrated Who's Who of Japanese
Cinema" have extensive essays on all three if you can read Japanese. In
short:
Furukawa Roppa
Born in Tokyo on 13 August 1903. Film debut in 1923. Died on 16 January
1961. Unfortunately, only films really known in the West are "The Way of
Drama" (Shibaido, 1944) and "Until Victory Day" (Shori no hi made, 1945).
Hanai Ranko
Born in Osaka on 15 July 1918. Film debut in 1929. Died on 21 May 1961.
Her more famous features include: "Fallen Blossoms" (Hana chirinu, 1938),
"Sugata Sanshiro" (1943), "Living Portrait" (Ikieiru gazo, 1948), "The
Makioka Sisters" (Sasame yuki, 1950), "Ginza Cosmetics" (Ginza gesho, 1951),
"Repast" (Meshi, 1950) and "Where Chimneys are Seen" (Entotsu no mieru
basho, 1953).
Iida Choko
Born in Tokyo on 15 April 1897. Film debut in 1923. Died on 26 December
1972. Pre-"Wakadaisho" her more famous features include "The Lady and the
Beard" (Shukujo to Hige, 1931), "Tokyo Chorus" (Tokyo no Gassho, 1931), "The
Bride Talks in Her Sleep" (Hanayome no Negoto, 1933), "An Innocent Maid"
(Hakoiri Musume), "Drunken Angel" (Yoidore Tenshi, 1948), "Wild Geese" (Gan,
1953), etc, etc, etc.
