This is a bit late (sorry about that), but the Mainichi newspaper
announced the winners of the 53rd Annual Mainichi Concours on Saturday:

Grand Prize: Ai o kou hito (Begging for Love)
Awards for Excellence:
Gakko III (Class to Remember III)
     Kanzo Sensei (Dr. Akagi)
     Ganbatte ikimasshoi (Give It All)
     Hana-bi
Best Director: Hiyayama Hideyuki (Ai o kou hito)
Best Screenplay: Nakajima Takehiro (Love Letter, A, haru)
Best Actor: Motoki Masahiro (Chugoku no chojin (Bird People of China))
Best Actress: Harada Mieko (Ai o kou hito)
Best Supporting Actor: Osugi Ren (Hana-Bi, etc.)
Best Supporting Actress: Yo Kimiko (Gakko III, etc.)
Best Photography: Yamamoto Hideo (Hana-bi)
Best Art Direction: Nakazawa Katsumi (Ai o kou hito); Maruo Tomoyuki
(CURE)
SupoNichi Grand Prize New Face Award: Tanaka Reina (Ganbatte ikimasshoi);

Japanese Film Fan Award: Odoru daisosasen

The Mainichi Concours, one of the oldest film awards in Japan, is
selected by a small panel of critics and tends to be even more
conservative than the KineJun awards. The February 2nd issue of the
paper will feature the jury comments.
