Shark Skin Man...

Yes, Dawn Handler at Destiny Entertainment is handling international sales
for "Shark Skin Man & Peach Hip Girl". But for festival screenings, all
decisions are still being made by Iizumi Hilo at Tohokushinsha. For the
record, his email:

h-iizumi at za2.so-net.ne.jp

Both are in London for the weekend where I expect to find at least one buyer
for the film. I'm not sure exactly why, but we have nine distributors
coming to tomorrow night's gala screening of "Shark Skin Man". Guess
there's at least some thirst for Asian films from the four UK distributors
who were outbid on "Kikujiro"...

But there does seem to be a new generation of distributors emerging in
Europe, more open to this kind of fare. I was very interested by Mark
Schilling's recent email pointing out that Fortissimo are having more
success opening up new markets for Asian film than selling to traditional
buyers. (At a time when Fortissimo is handling more [domestically]
commercial films: "Rajio no Jikan", "Love Letter", etc.)
