Well, the web address for Puchon is supposed to be:
www.pifan.or.kr
But I've been trying for a few weeks to access it without success. So, if
anyone on the list knows the titles they're showing next month - Japanese
and otherwise - perhaps they can mail them to the list. I've never attended
the festival, but it does seem to stretch the definition of "fantastic"
films a little too widely. Why, for example, Kobayashi Masahiro's "Closing
Time"? Apparently, the organisers do their fair bit of travelling around
the world to "fantastic" film festivals, but the results are hard to see.
Although almost completely off topic, there is on Thursday a conference at
Goldsmiths College in London exploring the lack of strong Asian cultural
study programmes in the UK: "Dislocating the West and the Rest". A couple
of Korean professors are attending: Kang Sangjung from Tokyo University and
Park Myungjin from Seoul National University. Other guests are: Paul
Gilroy, Scott Lash and Stuart Hall. Its organised by the Pacific Asia
Cultural Studies Forum (PACSF). More information at:
www.gold.ac.uk/~pacsf
And, Aaron, your cheesy grin is a pure figment of my imagination. But all
the niggling nonetheless.

PS: If anyone on the list does have a strong curiosity about Kim Ki-Young, I
have a very small number of the beautiful 88-page English-language
catalogues produced by the Pusan International Film Festival. Ever so
slightly water-damaged - thanks to DHL - but if anyone on the list would
like one, I'd be happy to cover the postage costs. Email me privately.
There's also apparently a three-page article on the director in the new
issue of "Manga Max".
