It's now the start of Golden Week in Japan, that period at the end of
April and beginning of May (depending on the calendar each year) when
there are a series of holidays, allowing people to go on vacation for
nearly a week.
It was reiterated on the news last night that the term "Golden Week" was
the product of moving picture industry publicity in the 1950s, with some
crediting Daiei's Nagata Masaichi or one of his underlings with coming up
with the term as a way of trying to sell films over the vacation period.
Anyone heard more specific tales?
Happy holidays,
Aaron Gerow
