Hello all, just a few questions;
1) I saw Masato Harada's Kamikaze Taxi on the weekend, as part of the World Cinema Showcase (a prelude to the International Film Festival) in Auckland.
Interesting - it starts out as some kind of comment on the influx of foreigners in Japan for cheap labour, then quickly morphs into a yakuza sex-and-violence shocker, then shifts to Yakusho Kouji's character's experiences as a Japanese in Peru and his subsequent return to Japan, and then becomes a John Woo-style revenge fantasy with its own Peruvian-Japanese Chow Yun-Fat kicking seven colours of excrement out of the bad guys. That's not to mention the strands on comfort women, kamikaze and corruption in Japanese politics. Talk about value for money. I'd be interested to hear anything about the film, the director, and anyone's opinions on it.
2) I'm looking for somewhere on the internet that I can find regular reviews and news on Japanese movies, in English (I can read Japanese but my work computer doesn't have a Japanese character set). The KineJapan site is great but doesn't seem to have been updated for a while. Suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
3) I've heard rumours of a Tekken movie, a computer-animated (?) flick based on the Namco video game (which includes CG mini movies as part of its victory sequences). Any truth to it?
Thanks for indulging my curiosity.
