After seeing the film I discussed it with Ken Okubo of the Mainichi
Shimbun, who said it reminded him of Suzuki Seijun's "Tokyo Drifter." He
also said that he had mentioned this to Jarmusch, who fessed up to having
seen the Suzuki film. 

But whatever the influences, the execution is pure Jarmusch -- hilarious if
you share his sense of humor (which I do, for better or worse), irritating,
puzzling or just plan duh if you don't.
