Dear list-members,

Although this is not the first time I contribute to this list, I never
introduced myself properly, so before asking you for a favour I guess it is
time I do. At present I am connected to the Centre for Japanese and Korean
Studies at Leiden University (the Netherlands). My main field of
specialisation is prewar Japanese political, social and intellectual
history, but my passion for the Japanese cinema every once in a while tends
to lead me astray from my 'principal occupation'. That is why I find myself
teaching a course on Japanese film history next semester, in which I would
also like to pay considerable attention to the Art Theater Guild (ATG). I
have some Japanese literature on ATG, but since this is a general course
open to all students, I will not be able to use these. Therefore,I would be
very much obliged if somebody could help me to some English articles on ATG.

By the way, if any of you have not made plans for the end of January yet,
the Rotterdam Film Festival will definitely be the place to be for Japanese
cinema fans. Apart from the regular selection of new Japanese movies, next
year's program also brings you an alternative overview of Japanese cinema
under the title of 'No Cherry Blossom', consisting of some sixty titles
ranging from yakuza and science-fiction to manga and experimental films. It
probably won't be long before you can find the preliminary program on their
homepage (www.iffrotterdam.nl). There could be worse ways to start the new
milennium.

Best regards,

Dick Stegewerns
