Tenure-track assistant professor of English in film and media studies,
with specialization in international and/or independent cinemas. The
successful candidate will contribute to the development of a new
interdisciplinary program in media studies in the School of Liberal Arts.
Candidates must demonstrate an ongoing research program in area of
expertise and a commitment to teaching a range of film and media studies
courses. Ability to teach screenwriting preferred. Ph.D. required.

GEORGE MASON UNIVERSITY. The English Department of George Mason University
seeks
to appoint a tenure-track assistant professor, to begin Fall 2000, with a
concentration in Film and Media Studies. PhD required. Candidates should
have
a special interest and expertise in one or more of the following fields,
plus
ability to teach courses in at least two: classic Hollywood cinema;
documentary; silent-era film; Latin and South American cinema; Asian
cinema; African cinema; third cinema; new media and technology
(internet, etc.). Candidates must demonstrate potential for
excellence in scholarship and undergraduate and graduate teaching.
Teaching assignments will include a range of film courses and occasional
courses in literature, composition, cultural studies, and/or other

2. THE UNIVERSITY OF IOWA seeks a tenure-track Assistant Professor in film

contemporary
American
cinema that includes strength in film theory as well as expertise in one
or

alternative markets; international film festival culture; relationships
among the film, video & music industries; film & emerging technologies.

studies. Candidates should have
a Ph.D. in film or a related discipline and should have some teaching
experience. Their field of specialization
may be any period or movement in film history, any area of the world that
has produced significant films,
any aspect of theory or approach to film criticism. Whatever their
specialties, candidates should have broad
interests and be able to teach a wide range of courses in film history,
theory, and criticism. Moreover, they
should be able to connect film studies with other fields of study, with
the
practice of the arts, and with the
larger culture and society. Sarah Lawrence is a small liberal arts college

EMORY UNIVERSITY, FILM STUDIES. Emory University invites applications for
a tenure-track position at the assistant professor level to teach courses
within the Film Studies Program. Appointment begins August 2000. The
course load is normally two courses a semester, and teaching duties will
be
at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. We especially seek
applications from scholars whose research and teaching interests include
alternative, avant-garde and/or non-Western film practice, particularly
from a feminist perspective. Candidates must possess a Ph.D. and
demonstrate potential for significant scholarly productivity and
excellence
