Sony picks up Kitano's Brother / Zatoichi

Well, Cannes confirmed it very early ... they don't care of the quality so 
much as having the prestige of the international premiere.  But perhaps 
they've already stated that it is in competition, I can't remember.  There 
is an English-language script, of course, as if that's enough.

And, of course, nobody would claim that GOHATTO is Oshima's strongest work - 
I haven't seen it myself so this is based on hearsay and the trustworthiness 
of Mark's reviews in The Japan Times - but its again prestigious to have the 
premiere for Cannes.

I also recently heard that Miike Takashi is working on a new version of 
ZATOICHI.  The script is still in development so perhaps a year away.  
Interesting again to see who takes on Katsu Shintaro's role.  Any 
suggestions, anyone?
