If you go to the Kinema Club page, you'll find information on how to search
for video tapes in Japan. Quite a lot of war-related materials on on
commercial tape. As for more unusual, classic documentaries it's tough. One
place is Video Act! (link in Kinema Club), which distributes Tsuchimoto
Noriaki and many others.

As for Documentary Box, it is highly recommended. A search on the internet
will turn up the address (there are also links to specific articles on
Kinema Club). The Yamagata
Film Fesival also has many excellent catalogs in English and Japanese on the
history of Japanese cinema, particularly after 1960.
