It was reported that Hitachi has decided to purchase the 4151 films left
over when Iwanami Productions, one of Japan's most important documentary
and educational film producers, went bankrupt last year. Its subsidiary
Hitachi Media Productions will transfer those films on 16mm into digital
(and DVD) and, through a new "Iwanami Film Library," make them available
to schools and other institutions through satellite broadcasts and other
multi-media networks. The service is supposed to start this April.
