The first stop for you is Kyoko Hirano's Mr. Smith Goes to Tokyo (which is
also published in Japanese as "Tenno to Seppun"). This has an excellent
bibliography for you.
In English, you can also order Joanne Izbicki's dissertation. Also in
Japanese, there are sections on the occupation in the general histories,
like Tanaka Jun'ichiro's _Nihon Eiga no Hattsushi_, Sato Tadao's Nihon
Eigashi, and others. You'll find a few good articles in the Koza Nihon Eiga
as well. Another good place to look is in the biographies and
autobiographies of film people who worked at the time, the most famous of
which is Iwasaki Akira's _Senryo Sareta Sukuriin_ (parts of this have been
published as "The Occupied Screen," ref in Kinema Club database).
Finally, one last place to look is in books and journals published at the
time. This is easy to do if you're in Tokyo, especially at Waseda or the
Film Center. In Kansai, Planet Film Library has a bit of this stuff and
they'd be glad to show you things and let you copy them.
