  This might have been mentioned already as its another pretty obvious
one, but the first film I thought of was Taro Rin's animation GALAXY
EXPRESS 999, based on Reiji Matsumoto's manga, now being serialized in
_Animerica_. In another _Animerica_ issue a few years back, Matsumoto
acknowledged Kenji Miyazawa's play "Night on the Galactic Raiload" and
also by his experience growing up near railroad tracks as a boy. The
Galaxy Express is especially interesting in the context of the film of
course because of it's nostalgic appeal.
