As part of research for my MA thesis I have been looking at the relationship between the traditional arts and Japanese cinema and have found the folloiwng two books useful in this respect:
Cinematic Landscapes: Observations on the Visual Arts and Cinema of China and Japan. Ed. by Linda C Erlich and David Desser University of Texas Press
Japan in Traditional and Postmodern Perspectives edited by Charles Wei-hsun Fu and Steven Heine State University of New York Press
The second book is actually out of print. If you have difficulty getting any books and can't find them in the library I have found the booksearch very helpful. If you can find ways of getting payment to her I am sure she would be able to get the books sent to you as she had to get one from the States for me and had it sent direct by airmail.
Her email address is: scfordham at talk21.com
Good luck
janet
