Here is a bibliography and filmography for Adachi (compiled by Hirasawa Go,
who organized the retrospective in Tokyo). It includes materials by and
about Wakamatsu as well.

The easiest way to read his stuff is to get his book, _Eiga e no Senryaku_,
although it is out of print and doesn't show up in the used bookstores very
often. You can quickly find some of his best work by paging through the
second _Eiga Hihyo_.

To update the last message I sent on Adachi: It turns out the four Red Army
members---sans Okamoto---were returned to Japan through a secret agreement
between Japan, Lebanon, and Jordon. Lebanon sent them to Jordon so it
wouldn't look like a direct transfer to Japanese hands. Basically, they were
abruptly told to have their bags packed immediately, were handcuffed and
blindfolded, and told they were being transferred to another prison.
Actually, they were put on a plane and the blindfolds didn't come off until
they got to Jordon. In Jordon they were transferred to a charter trip back
to Japan, where a contingent of kidotai kept the press at arm's length. The
live television of rows of kidotai at Narita reminded me of the Ogawa Pro
films in a weird, ironic way.  Today's paper reported that Adachi faces only
fake passport charges, which entails a maximum of 2 years in prison.

In the Eiga Geijutsu issue, Adachi expressed the strong desire to make more
films when this is all over. Back in the 1960s and 1970s, he was among the
crop of directors that worked in an ultra-low-budget mode. After about the
time Adachi went underground, pretty much all of those directors refused to
work unless the budget was at mainstream levels. Until last year, even
Tsuchimoto chose not to make films rather than use cheap video. I look
forward to Adachi's choice.
