Just to add a few things.
The names of the two co-directors of "Shin onna onna onna monogatari" are
Kurata Takeo and Akutagawa Kazutoshi. Akutagawa was also cameraman of
Takechi's "Onna onna onna monogatari" and producer of another film by
Takechi (Sengo zankoku monogatari).
Both films were distributed by Shochiku.
Since Takechi's film is included in the bilingual (English/French) catalogue
"Japanese Films 1964" of UniJapan (Association for the Diffusion of Japanese
Films Abroad) it is most likely that the film was also shown in Europe and
the United States.
The text of the UniJapan catalogue reads as following:
"This is an epoch-making feature length documentary, of Japan at
night...with a sharp focus on women, whose beauty, charm, energy, sadness
and mysterious eroticism are vividly portrayed.
The colourful scenes photographed with a highly polished touch include:
nude Noh plays, women wrestlers, women divers, nuns, striptease dancers,
fashion models, lesbians, beer-drinking queens, dope addicts, geisha of
Gion, sportswomen, tattooed women...and other aspects of women - on the
lighter and darker sides of Japanese life.
The production team included experts from every field and the
photography was undertaken by nine groups of experienced cameramen who used
hidden cameras to pack this unique documentary film with overwhelming and
shocking reality."
I wonder who, after reading this text, didn't want to see the film.

> Thanks lot. That has actually cleared up the main discrepancy I was facing,
> because the Cahiers du Cinema article listed Takeo Kurata and Kazuo
> Akutagawa
> as the two directors of the Shin Onna Onna Onna Monogatari, not the imdb
> listing of
> Tajiro Tamura. This all fits in nicely!
