Ishihara Shintaro, the governor of Tokyo and brother of movie great
Ishihara Shintaro, announced that he will be creating a "Tokyo Location
Box" in the city government to serve as a window for encouraging the
shooting of films in Tokyo. The principal is like that of the film
commission, an institution popular in the US that works to cut red tape,
find locations, and otherwise promote the filming of movies in local
areas, but which has only recently caught on in Japan. Police in Japan
are notoriously uncooperative with film shootings. Ishihara said he has
a dream of Hollywood-like car chases one day being filmed in the Ginza.
