Hi all:
I'm just joining the kinejapan list. My name is Catherine Russell,
although I tend to go by Katie. I teach film studies at Concordia
University in Montreal, and I often teach Japanese film. I recently
attended the conference in Boulder Colorado, which was truly inspiring. I
hope there will be another incarnation in the near future. I gave a paper
on Naruse Mikio's adaptations of the writing of Hayashi Fumiko, part of a
larger project I am currently working on concerning Naruse and the question
of the Japanese "women's film." Although I've published a few articles on
this subject in Asian Cinema and in Camera Obscura, I also have many other
research interests, and just published a book with Duke University Press
called Experimental Ethnography (see my home page for more details
http://cinema.concordia.ca/russell/).
I am looking for a research assistant based in Tokyo to help me with the
Naruse project. The ideal person is a grad student in film studies with
good English and Japanese language skills. If anyone is interested, or
knows of a suitable person, please let me know.
thanks,
katie
