Kinejapan ---
I just found I had recently been from the KJ listserv a couple of
weeks ago, so this information have already been posted:
For film festival fans,
three Japanese films will be presented
at the 38th New York Film Festival:
Brother (dir. Kitano Takeshi)
Wed., Sept. 27, 9 PM
Thurs., Sept. 28, 6 PM
Gohatto (dir. Oshima Nagisa)
Sat., Sept. 30, 12:00 noon
Mon., Oct. 2, 6 PM
Eureka (dir. Aoyama Shinji)
Sat., Oct. 7, 10:30 AM (running time = 217 minutes)
Several KJ-ers have commented about Brother and Gohatto,
but I don't recall seeing much about Eureka.
Would anyone have reactions they would care to contribute?
Other Asian films being presented this year include:
Chunhyang (Im Kwon-Taek, South Korea)
Sat., Sept 23, 3 PM
Mon., Sept 25, 6 PM
In the Mood for Love (Wong Kar-wai, Hong Kong)
Sun., Oct. 1, 7 PM
YI YI (A One and a Two) (Edward Yang, Taiwan)
Wed., Oct. 4, 6:30 PM
Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (Ang Lee, Taiwan) (closing night)
Mon., Oct. 9, 9 PM
Of the above films, Chunhyang, Brother, In the Mood for Love,
YI YI, and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon
all have American distributors, which means they will most likely
be released (at least in New York) at some future date.
Tickets will go on sale to the public this Sunday, Sept. 10th.
