Just to add something on Riju: His mother is Osanai Mieko, a famous 
TV-drama scriptwriter.  He actually got his first lead role on TV in a 
drama penned by his mother: Fubo no gosan.

I first saw Zazie in a package of new independent Japanese films that 
toured the States in 1991 (I saw it at the Art Institute in Chicago in 
June, if memory serves me right).  So maybe there is some kind of 
information in English floating around somewhere.
