In some late news, the film critic and producer Kusakabe Kyushiro died on
the 19th at age 81. Kusakabe began his career as a journalist, moving on
to production in the Mainichi Eigasha. He was president of that
documentary film company for a while and was instrumental both in the
production of several films on the atomic bombs dropped on Japan and in
the "Ten Feet Film Movement" to return US footage of the atomic bomb to
Japan. He was director of the Tokyo Film Festival for a time and as a
critic authored books on Iwanami Productions and the actor Kobayashi
Keiju.
