Though this isn't what Don was talking about and doesn't relate to his point but it's worth complicating the issue by pointing out that that not only are most Hong Kong films dubbed even in their "original" Cantonese but since they are intended for dubbing in various other languages and sometimes have stars that don't even know Cantonese (Jet Li apparently only speaks Mandarin) the whole idea of original dialogue is a bit opaque. An unusual situation certainly but most Italian films until recently were also dubbed even in Italian and also with the expectation of appearing in other languages.
