27th JASIAS Conference

The 27th Annual Japan Society of Image Arts and Sciences conference will 
be held this weekend (June 2-4) at the Osaka University of Arts.

The program features a symposium on the topic of "The Image and 20th 
Century Art" (including the panelists Iwamoto Kenji, Asanuma Keiji, and 
Kondo Kojin), and papers on such film-related topics as Chaplin and 
Kabuki, children in Shimizu Hiroshi's cinema, the realism of sword fights 
in chanbara films, Takakura Ken, several on animation, and other 
theoretical papers on moving image arts.  KineJapanners Fujii Jinshi and 
Itakura Fumiaki will battle head to head with papers on "Incident" films 
and on early film theater history.  Recent experimental works will also 
be shown.

The participation fee is 5000 for members, but only 1000 for 
students.
