The Maiku Hama trilogy screening at the festival is a hoot. The first
film, "Waga Jinsei Saiaku No Toki" (The most terrible time in my LIFE) is
one of my favourites. There's a nice pulp sense of fun running through the
series, and I think it's some of Nagase Masatoshi's best work. Director
Tsukamoto Shinya appears in a cameo role. "Wana" (THE TRAP) perhaps
doesn't fit in well as the third and final instalment, but I forgave it for
its (post-modern?)ending. Good use of B&W in the first film, followed by
lots of lurid colour in the second. All that and it's recommended by the
Japan Detective Association.
