Cannes prizes were announced yesterday without the usual frenzy
this year, because no movie created sensation like usual
French journalist considered the jury prize given to a technician of HOU
SIAN SIEN'movie an insult...
as for the rest, it is 'policatilly correct' : americans (Lynch, and (again)
the Coen bros.) were given two prizes so that USA does not complain like
last year, and come back next year with more important movies,
the winner is Austria's Michael Haeneke The pianist, a french production,
two leading actors got the prizes
the palme d'or goes to Nanni Moretti's the Son's room, probably the only
movie on which everybody (i mean the french and foreign press) were able to
agree
as for Asia, although the new picture by Shoei Immamura was well received,
not major prize
Shinji O?AMA's movie was considered too long and boring, Kurosawa's was the
type of movie that shouldn't be in Cannes
Mamuro Oshii's Avalon was panned
