I can't help thinking that this is the case in general. I still quote the 
example of the surprise success in the US of SHALL WE DANCE? Since a remake 
was announced (which doesn't seem like its ever going to occur now), the 
film has never been put out on DVD and is all but forgotten in the West 
nowadays. It never received any sort of release in the UK outside of a brief 
run on the arthouse circuit. And then there's the more recent example of THE 
RING. Call it conspiracy theory if you will, I see it more a case of 
controlling markets.
