The INDIANA UNIVERSITY Department of Communication and Culture invites
applications for the position of visiting assistant professor. We seek
an individual with interests in global media focused on East Asia and in
television and/or new technologies to teach two courses in one semester
and three in the other. This is a full-time, non-tenure track position
for academic year 2002-03. Minimum qualifications include a Ph.D. in
communication or related field for appointment at the rank of visiting
assistant professor (or ABD to be considered for appointment at the rank
of visiting lecturer) and demonstrated teaching skills. Applicants

successful teaching experience, and three letters of recommendation. All

SAN FRANCISCO STATE UNIVERSITY invites applications for a tenure-track
position of Assistant Professor in Cinema Studies. One of 8 departments
in the College of Creative Arts, the Cinema Department has 17 full time
tenure-track faculty, together with some 30 part-time/associate faculty,
serving some 800 film students. Committed to the teaching of production
and studies as a common enterprise, we offer a general BA degree in
Cinema, an MA in Cinema Studies, and an MFA in Cinema. As befits a
program originating in the experimental era of the sixties and located
in San Francisco, long renowned for its traditions of personal and
experimental art, there is a strong commitment to fostering creative,
critical and independent thought and endeavor.

Successful candidates should possess a Ph.D. in Film Studies, teaching
experience at the university level, and a strong record of research and
publication in film history and criticism. They should evidence
substantial scholarly achievement in at least one, and preferably more,
of the following areas: early cinema, documentary film, avant-garde
cinema, and international cinema. Familiarity with post-structural and
post-modern theory is expected. Other desirable credentials include:
knowledge of filmmaking practice; experience teaching screenwriting;
knowledge of current and emerging technologies; experience in curating
film screenings and events.
