Yokohama Film Festival

According to the papers, the Yokohama Film Festival, a long-running, 
fan-supported festival that features its own selection of the best films 
of the year, released its selection for 2002.  The Festival's Best Ten 
and individual awards are as follows:

01. Hush!
02. OUT
03. Tasogare Seibei
04. KT
05. Torabaiyu
06. Gomen
07. Warau kaeru
08. Pin Pon
09. Gaichu
10. Hikari no ame
Runners up: Love Letter [dir. Morisaki Azuma]; Kiriko no fukei [dir. 
Akashi Tomoyuki]

Best Director: Hirayama Hideyuki; Hashiguchi Ryosuke
Best New Director: Sori Fumihiko 
Best Screenplay: Otani Kentaro
Best Cinematography: Shibasaki Kozo
Best Actor: Nagatsuka Kyozo; Tanabe Seiichi
Best Actress: Seto Asuka
Best Supporting Actor: Tsukamoto Shinya
Best Supporting Actress: Otsuka Nene
Best New Face: Ichikawa Mikako; Kuno Masahiro; Sakuraya Yukika

As you can see, the YFF is oriented towards the popular without feeling 
the need to support the "established" directors that older critics tend 
to favor.  

A screening of some of the winners, as well as special previews of 
upcoming films, will be held in Yokohama on February 2.
